Waiting on Van
It was Lisette's 25th birthday yesterday (08 02 07) so I surprised her by taking her to hear Van Morrison. Lisette knew she was going to a concert but thought it might have been Dolly Parton. At 8.00 "The van morrison band" took the stage and started getting in the groove, a couple of numbers in, a harmonica was heard off stage and the wee man trooped in playing "bright side of the road". The crowd seemed a bit edgy at first, maybe aware of Van's moods and not wanting to upset him, it seemed they were trying to enourage him when he was still finding his vibe....anyway a couple of songs in, after 'moondance' he really found his rythm and didn't look back. The night was a mix of the old favourites and songs from the new album "pay the devil. Some of the band members were fantastic, special mention to the rock chick on slide guitar.
I have never seen any performer drink so much water (??) as Van. Van had employed some slave who shuttled from the stage to backstage obeying the continous demands that Van made on him largely for H20. I believe not one song went by without "the serf" having to do some minial task.
A great night and a fantastic way for the minx to celebrate her 1/4 centuary (if only the england cricket team could get a 25 not out)....I would have liked it if Van had engaged a wee bit with the audience, I appreciate he is shy but as he was in his home town, a " Hows about ye" wouldn't have gone a miss.

Hey Jonny
Great Blog! Van WAS the Man, really enjoyed the surprise concert. Agree that a bit more interaction wouldn't have been amiss but the voice was super to hear live...
I'm never going to get work done any more with all my mates having blogs.
Welcome to blog world Jonny !! Looking forward to reading your thoughts in cyber space. Who knows maybe the Minx will join in & get a blog too (then she really won't get any work done)........
Hope you all had fun on Saturday - sorry I couldn't be there - if you've any photos or stories please share.......
